August Netflix Recommendations 2014

Here are my recommendations for Canadian Netflix this August (Bold = New titles/ones I've just watched):

-Evil Dead 2
One of my favourite fight sequences is in this horror classic. A great blend of comedy and fear.

-The Cabin in the Woods
A great twist on the typical horror formula with plenty of laughs thrown in (and a few extra for the true horror buff)

-Almost Human
Don't trust your friends if they show up out of no where after they seemed to have been abducted by aliens.

-The Faculty
Elijah Wood fights an Alien invasion, as directed by Robert Rodriguez

-Banshee Chapter
A serious film inspired by From Beyond with the gay vampire baptist minister from True Blood without the accent.

-V/H/S 2
Some of the segments in this anthology film legitimately freaked me out for a night or two.

-Zombieland
One of the better Zom Coms, with a small dose of Rom thrown in there.

-Bad Milo
An excellent comedy about a man who finds himself with an irritable bowel demon living in his colon.

-From Dusk til Dawn (movie not tv series)
The Gecko brothers think they're safe after pulling off a bank heist, but their hideout of The Titty Twister has other plans for them.

-Tucker and Dale vs. Evil
While renovating their summer home, a couple of hill billys notice an odd amount of deaths happening on their property.

-Planet Terror
After a military bio-weapon is accidentally released, a rag tag group of those immune must fight for their lives against the pustulating victims.

-Maniac
Elijah Wood plays a man with a deadly obsession with mannequins and a strange way of showing his affection for women.

-Grabbers
A secluded Irish island community must get wasted to survive an evening of alien assault.

-Ravenous
Civil war soldiers who have to survive on "the other white meat".

-Stake Land
Survivors of the vampire apocalypse go on a cross country adventure encountering what humanity has come to since civilization's demise.

-Hostel
By now you should know what this one is about.

-The Loved Ones
Lola just wanted to go to prom with him, now he's going to be her date whether he wants to or not.

-Teeth
VAGINA DENTATA! VAGINA DENTATA!

-Detention (starring Josh Hutcherson)
Serial killer prom queen, aliens and a time travelling bear. Somehow it all works.

-Doghouse
A bachelor party goes wrong when they discover the town they are visiting is inhabited by zombie women.

-The ABCs of Death
26 short films based on the alphabet, only rule, someone has to die.

-+1
Ever wonder what would happen if you met a double of yourself, this probably would.

-Carrie
You know what this one is about

-Black Death
Sean Bean contributes to his death reel in this period piece taking place during the bubonic plague days of England.

-We Are What We Are
Ok turns out this is the original Spanish version, but if the american re-make is any indication, it should be pretty awesome.

-30 Days of Night
Vampires in the arctic at the height of winter.

-The Amazing Spider-Man
Andrew Garfield is a far superior Spider-man.

-X-Men First Class
James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Caleb Landry Jones playing mutant superheroes. Renewed my love for The X-Men.

-Big Trouble in Little China
Kurt Russell and John Carpenter are at it again and it's wonderful.

-Titan AE
Great sci-fi animated epic with our intrepid heroes looking for a new planet to call home.

-Planet Hulk
Pretty true to the comic storyline, know that these events lead to a couple hulklings running around.

-Metropolis
One of the first Sci-fi movies ever made.

-District 9
Years after aliens crash landed in South Africa an awkward social worker must attempt to move them to new housing.

-Moon
A one man mission to harvest energy on the moon hits a snag when our intrepid hero gets hurt.

-The Fifth Element
It's a classic.

-Starship Troopers
After an attack on the Earth soldiers must take the fight to the alien insect's home front.

-Attack the Block
Aliens attack a low income neighbourhood which is less helpless than they had anticipated.

-Ghostbusters
Duh.

-Pan's Labyrinth
During the Spanish civil war a young girl discovers the secret of the old house she is now living in.

-Hellboy
I just love Hellboy and Guillermo del Toro.

-Errors of the Human Body
In Dresden labs an experiment transfers from a mouse to a human with horrific results.

-Green Lantern: the Animated Series
While I'm not a fan of the animation style, the story of this one season series kept me wanting more and marathoning the series as quickly as I could.

-Are You Afraid of the Dark?
Scary anthology series that you can watch with your kids (or easily frightened friends). Some of the episodes I saw as a kid still give me chills.

-Goosebumps
See above.

-Bates Motel
Explore the past of Norman Bates in the first season of this thrilling television show.

-Young Justice
Basically one of the best superhero cartoon series I can think of, it made me actually interested in DC comics.

-Misfits
What happens when teenage delinquents get superpowers while doing volunteer service.

-Twin Peaks
It's weird, we'll leave it at that.

-Firefly
I'm really surprised if you haven't seen this one yet.

-Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes
My other favourite superhero cartoon. Watch it.

Strictly for Comedic Value (AKA so bad it's hilarious):

-My Soul to Take
Wes Craven really felt like he was making fun of the sub genre he made popular in this with far too many cliches and a predictable twist.

-Cursed
Jesse Eisenberg werewolf movie.

-Ghostrider: Spirit of Vengeance
Nic Cage, nuff said.

-Piranha 3DD
Not much to say here.
